Quiz: Which Dance Matches Your Personality?

It’s been too long since I’ve shared anything about my ballroom dancing/dance life.

I returned briefly to the studio to take Rumba and Bachata classes with Lisa Skates at Simply Social Dancing. The dance studio is a good 30-45 minutes from work/home, so the month of May 2017 was a bit challenging. I literally had to force myself to attend dance class after work. I always enjoyed myself once I started dancing. I guess it’s like going to the gym to work out…the hardest part is getting there! I would definitely take more classes if there was an affordable dance studio closer to home.

The other studio that I used to take classes at quite often a few years ago is Starlight Dance Center. They have reasonable rates. I’m going to take the summer off from taking classes because nobody wants to sweat on strangers unless you’re attending an actual dance, in which case, it’s to be expected.  🙂

Anyway, a few of the dance pros from Dancing With The Stars have a couple studios in New Jersey. I went to one of them a few years ago for the free comp lesson. At the time, they only had 2 locations in New Jersey, but I believe they now have 3 locations. The problem for me is that they don’t have dance socials on Friday or Saturday. I’m not interested in going to a party on a Tuesday night.

Anyway, I just received an email from Dance With Me dance studio with the following quiz. My quiz results came back with Jive as being the dance that matches my personality. East Coast Swing is my favorite dance, but I’ve always wanted to learn Jive.  🙂

Random Thoughts…

I’ve been wanting to share with y’all, but I didn’t really know what I wanted to say or have a specific topic, so that’s one of the reasons why I haven’t written much lately. The main reason is that I spend most of my time job hunting. Praise Jesus, I have a job, the same one that He provided, which I wrote about, but Jesus and I both know that this is NOT where I am to spend the next 20 years until I retire, so I’m focused on my goal of getting another job with better hours, so that I can begin dance classes again and not be so tired all of the time. I’m disappointed that I had to give up the Bachata and Salsa class because I was really enjoying both. But, my body can’t handle getting up so early (I have no control over my internal time clock), working so late and then driving 30 minutes to dance class, driving back home and doing it all over the next day. I need a better work-life balance in order to pursue my passion, ballroom dancing!

Thanksgiving was good; I spent it with family from church. I enjoyed my Filipino Thanksgiving dinner. The hard part is eating dinner at 8 o’clock at night and going home with all that food in my stomach, but I’m always thankful that I have someone else to do the cooking because I have never enjoyed cooking…baking cupcakes, yes, cooking, NO.

I really wanted to go dancing Friday night, but when I looked out the window around 4pm and saw that it was raining, I decided to enjoy some time home relaxing.  Besides, I had just gotten my hair done earlier in the day and didn’t want to mess it up. Since I have yet to find a dance partner, I figured there was no point anyway, so I stayed home.

It’s 7pm on a Saturday evening and I could go dancing, but I’m enjoying myself too much to move. I’ve been watching some YouTube videos and laughing and watching a bit of TV, too. What can I say, I’m a homebody except when I’m dancing?!  In fact, I haven’t left the house all day. Guess I’ll have to go grocery shopping after church tomorrow.

I often wonder what my life would be like if I had my dream job and could live the life I’ve always dreamed of…Jesus, ballroom dancing and photography…it’s a pretty simple life.

Finally…!

I made my way back my usual dance spot last night, Friday, Nov. 11th. I wasn’t due to return until January, but since my neighbor no longer needed me to sit with her daughter, I have Friday nights to myself again.

I mentioned in a previous post that I met a couple guys at a dance studio one Saturday night and one of the two guys sat the entire time. Well, that same guy contacted me to see if I wanted to go dancing this week and I suggested we go on Friday to my regular spot. I got there at my usual time, but he was 30 minutes “late”.

Well, turns out, dude can dance…quite well.  He and WE kept getting compliments all night! He only seems to know Salsa and Merengue, but he knows them better than I do, which is the kind of partner that I’ve been looking for!

He says he’ll find some place to take beginner ballroom dance lessons so he can dance the Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing and such.

Time will tell if this round of craigslist posts will pan out.

East Coast Swing…or Jitterbug…

This is by far my favorite Swing dance routine.  I know it says Jitterbug, but East Coast Swing, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop are all in the same dance family, and most of what I see in this routine appears to be Swing.

I can’t wait to find a regular dance partner!  Dancing is life for me…AFTER…Jesus, of course!!!

Salsa…The End…

So, Tuesday was my last Salsa class…at least for a few months.  I enjoyed the class and learned some things I didn’t know, which was easy considering I didn’t know much Salsa to begin with. The class was good and I’ll miss dancing with my classmates, but I was too tired from the racing from one town to another after work to get to class. I’m sure things will be different in the Spring.

Well, this is the “cleanest” Salsa I have found…so far…

This is why God has blessed me with the ability to dance…so that I can bring cleanliness to the dance floor!

Bachata…The End…

So, last night was my last Bachata class. Yes, I could continue and move on from Total Beginner to Level 1, but right now, it’s too much to rush from work every Wednesday trying to race through rush hour traffic to get to class in 30 minutes. Under “normal” circumstances, 30 minutes would be plenty of time to get from work to dance class, but in rush hour traffic, it’s pushing it. The town that I work in is not really close to the town where the dance studio is located.  I truly want to continue as I believe many of my classmates will continue. It’s nearly impossible to find men who know how to dance, so that’s just another reason why I enjoyed the class so much!  Besides, Andres, the instructor really knows how to teach and demonstrate his instruction in a way that’s easy to copy, learn and emulate.

I did not ask every man his name, but did ask two guys, Charles and Robert. Charles is in NO way a beginner. He did a lot of “advanced” moves with me. I don’t think Robert realizes how good he is or how easy it is to follow him.  I look forward to dancing with both of them again some day…

I wanted to share a video of Bachata dancing, but alas, I could not find a CLEAN video to share. I know and understand that Bachata is a sensual dance, but my goodness…I’m sure one exists, I just couldn’t find one to share here before 8pm, when the date on this post will change.  So, I better hit the publish button.

Some day, I’m going to have someone take a video of me dancing…
