More Dance News

Well, I’ve been doing a lot more dancing since I moved and certainly in the last few weeks. I went to a Salsa on2 class on Jan 21st and a Salsa on1 class on Jan 24th, which was a lot more fun than Salsa on2. I returned to that same Salsa on1 studio for their first dance social of the year on Jan 27th.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many guys asked me to dance despite the fact that I did not know much beyond the basics. Praise Jesus for giving me the ability and talent to follow as well as I do because some thought I knew more than I actually do. Salsa is definitely not my dance, but it’s fun with the right dance partner. There was one guy who wasn’t as advanced as the others, but he still knew way more than I and managed to make me look really good on the dance floor.

The instructor finally asked me to dance and within seconds, the power went out in the entire studio!!!  It took a few minutes for the staff to come up with a remedy, but they got the music playing again and the party continued. I left shortly after the power was restored. I was debating whether or not to take another Salsa class on Wednesday night, but I have decided to stay home and conserve my energy for the Swing dance on Saturday night. The last Swing dance in my area was on Dec 2nd, so I’m really looking forward to this dance!!! I pray, dear Lord, for good weather and a huge turn out because I need to get back into the swing of things, pun intended!   🙂

I’ve been going to the Elks Club every Friday for the last few weeks, but will miss it this Friday because I’m going to support a friend as she and others share their testimony.

I’m now debating whether or not I will take a Waltz/Hustle class that begins on Monday at another local dance studio. The funny thing is that I was going to ask the Salsa studio about taking a class in these same dances before I checked another studio’s website and found that they’re offering a special: 4 classes for $45 for the month of February. I really want to take the class it’s just that it’s on a Monday and I hate to go out in the cold. Knowing me, I will probably take the class.

I’m sharing this Cupid Shuffle video because it always motivates me no matter what I’m about to do. One of the ladies from church shared a video on Facebook of some people doing planks to this song!!!  🙂

Random Thoughts…

I’ve been wanting to share with y’all, but I didn’t really know what I wanted to say or have a specific topic, so that’s one of the reasons why I haven’t written much lately. The main reason is that I spend most of my time job hunting. Praise Jesus, I have a job, the same one that He provided, which I wrote about, but Jesus and I both know that this is NOT where I am to spend the next 20 years until I retire, so I’m focused on my goal of getting another job with better hours, so that I can begin dance classes again and not be so tired all of the time. I’m disappointed that I had to give up the Bachata and Salsa class because I was really enjoying both. But, my body can’t handle getting up so early (I have no control over my internal time clock), working so late and then driving 30 minutes to dance class, driving back home and doing it all over the next day. I need a better work-life balance in order to pursue my passion, ballroom dancing!

Thanksgiving was good; I spent it with family from church. I enjoyed my Filipino Thanksgiving dinner. The hard part is eating dinner at 8 o’clock at night and going home with all that food in my stomach, but I’m always thankful that I have someone else to do the cooking because I have never enjoyed cooking…baking cupcakes, yes, cooking, NO.

I really wanted to go dancing Friday night, but when I looked out the window around 4pm and saw that it was raining, I decided to enjoy some time home relaxing.  Besides, I had just gotten my hair done earlier in the day and didn’t want to mess it up. Since I have yet to find a dance partner, I figured there was no point anyway, so I stayed home.

It’s 7pm on a Saturday evening and I could go dancing, but I’m enjoying myself too much to move. I’ve been watching some YouTube videos and laughing and watching a bit of TV, too. What can I say, I’m a homebody except when I’m dancing?!  In fact, I haven’t left the house all day. Guess I’ll have to go grocery shopping after church tomorrow.

I often wonder what my life would be like if I had my dream job and could live the life I’ve always dreamed of…Jesus, ballroom dancing and photography…it’s a pretty simple life.

I made my way back my usual dance spot last night, Friday, Nov. 11th. I wasn’t due to return until January, but since my neighbor no longer needed me to sit with her daughter, I have Friday nights to myself again.

I mentioned in a previous post that I met a couple guys at a dance studio one Saturday night and one of the two guys sat the entire time. Well, that same guy contacted me to see if I wanted to go dancing this week and I suggested we go on Friday to my regular spot. I got there at my usual time, but he was 30 minutes “late”.

Well, turns out, dude can dance…quite well.  He and WE kept getting compliments all night! He only seems to know Salsa and Merengue, but he knows them better than I do, which is the kind of partner that I’ve been looking for!

He says he’ll find some place to take beginner ballroom dance lessons so he can dance the Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing and such.

Time will tell if this round of craigslist posts will pan out.

East Coast Swing…or Jitterbug…

This is by far my favorite Swing dance routine.  I know it says Jitterbug, but East Coast Swing, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop are all in the same dance family, and most of what I see in this routine appears to be Swing.

I can’t wait to find a regular dance partner!  Dancing is life for me…AFTER…Jesus, of course!!!

Salsa…The End…

So, Tuesday was my last Salsa class…at least for a few months.  I enjoyed the class and learned some things I didn’t know, which was easy considering I didn’t know much Salsa to begin with. The class was good and I’ll miss dancing with my classmates, but I was too tired from the racing from one town to another after work to get to class. I’m sure things will be different in the Spring.

Well, this is the “cleanest” Salsa I have found…so far…

This is why God has blessed me with the ability to dance…so that I can bring cleanliness to the dance floor!

Bachata…The End…

So, last night was my last Bachata class. Yes, I could continue and move on from Total Beginner to Level 1, but right now, it’s too much to rush from work every Wednesday trying to race through rush hour traffic to get to class in 30 minutes. Under “normal” circumstances, 30 minutes would be plenty of time to get from work to dance class, but in rush hour traffic, it’s pushing it. The town that I work in is not really close to the town where the dance studio is located.  I truly want to continue as I believe many of my classmates will continue. It’s nearly impossible to find men who know how to dance, so that’s just another reason why I enjoyed the class so much!  Besides, Andres, the instructor really knows how to teach and demonstrate his instruction in a way that’s easy to copy, learn and emulate.

I did not ask every man his name, but did ask two guys, Charles and Robert. Charles is in NO way a beginner. He did a lot of “advanced” moves with me. I don’t think Robert realizes how good he is or how easy it is to follow him.  I look forward to dancing with both of them again some day…

I wanted to share a video of Bachata dancing, but alas, I could not find a CLEAN video to share. I know and understand that Bachata is a sensual dance, but my goodness…I’m sure one exists, I just couldn’t find one to share here before 8pm, when the date on this post will change.  So, I better hit the publish button.

Some day, I’m going to have someone take a video of me dancing…
